I am so excited to say today I finally took the first step in getting my podcast Hooked on the First Chapter (HFC) out of the land of dreams and into reality! I like everyone else in the world love, love, love listening to podcasts. And like all indie authors, I have to find ways of connecting with audiences differently than more traditionally supported/published authors are. And like all avid readers, I want to know where to spend my precious reading time in my busy life. When I published my first book, I knew I also wanted a podcast where I could talk about books with all my favorite people. Most of those people happen to also be indie authors also strive to reach new audiences and connect with fans. I also now read quite a bit of indie published work that I feel is on par if not better than many mainstream published fiction…and some of it that is not. It has been in theis nexus of idea and need that HFC was formulated…and then has been rolling around in limbo.

Every now and again I would get a few moments and read a book, an article, follow a blog, or watch a YouTube on starting a podcast. But then like every good intention on a round of dieting I felt overwhelmed by the information and all the possibilities that general information had thrown out there that I set the idea aside to focus on other things.

But 2025 is the freaking year!!!

So, I basically fed my research in and came up with a task-by-task guide for myself to get HFC (and other potential podcasts) going in about 30 days.

Today was Day 1 all about vision and branding. I learned a ton about who I want to reach out to and the mission behind HFC to bring quality indie stories and their authors into the spotlight, so that readers can sample the extravagant buffet of wonder to find what they have been searching for… their next great read!

Originally I thought of my audience as being both readers and indie authors and building that intersection, but then by expanding my parameters I realized that there are many more people who may be interested, such as the audiobook crowd, the book club crowd, the BTS crowd, and the crowd that just loves hearing an opinionated lady read out loud and get them the scope on what really inspired the author.

After finding out more of who I want to reach out to, then I had to know what to say to get them to come check it out! What was I wanting to give to them and why. Working on my mission statement and really identifying not only what I am doing and for whom, but why I am doing it is going to keep me going when it gets tough.

Because it will get tough. But that is another day Kat problem, for today the tasks were fun and insightful. Cross-fingers I am back tomorrow with Day 2’s recap!
